BASIC PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing a safe and dependable group transportation in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, and the philosophy of The Salvation Army to enhance the programs and ministries of the Corps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Seasonal

  1. Safely transport all bell ringers to and from designated bell ringing sites in a timely manner.
  2. Drop off and collect kettles from bell ringing sites
  3. Ensure that bell ringers fill in their timecards as required
  4. Keep extra supplies of bells, aprons, timecards and other bell ringer supplies in the vehicle.
  5. To refill the gas tank as needed or communicate any needed repairs to the Corps officer(s)
  6. To help check on bell ringers to make sure that they are working in the prescribed manner.
  7. Report any concerns or complaints about bell ringers or from the stores.
  8. Keep track of mileage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Completion of daily trip logs with monthly submission to Corps Assistant.
  2. Completion of inspection checklist when driving DOT regulated vehicles.
  3. Provide routine maintenance which includes:
    1. As needed: gasoline, trash disposal, and clutter removal,
    2. Weekly: washing and vacuuming,
    3. Quarterly: Oil changes, lube, tire rotation, safety inspection, and deep cleaning.


  4. Work with Corps Assistant to assist in providing other maintenance as repairs as needed.
  5. Ensure vehicle safety by closing all windows and locking all doors when not in use.
  6. Responsible for assigned vehicle keys.
  7. Cooperate with other professional members in assessing and assisting to solve adult and children's concerns and challenges in emergency situations.
  8. Always maintain a positive and professional image.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Possession of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Must have a pleasant personality and the ability to communicate well with the public.
  3. Must present an appropriate appearance (i.e., clothing should be neat, clean and pressed, not loose-fitting or sloppy, and in good condition; shoes must be clean and in good condition). Due to cold weather, you will want to dress warmly. The red windbreaker must always be worn along with an identification badge.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License , and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
  2. Must be 21 years or older.
  3. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. The employee must be able to stand for up to 2 hours at a time. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
