Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Walking - move about on foot. Carrying - transporting an object by hand. Crouching - bending the body downward and forward by bending the knees and spine. Climbing - ascending and descending the stairs. Lifting - able to lift 25 - 60 lbs. Kneeling - bending legs at the knees to come to rest on the knees. Pulling - able to exert force upon an object so the object moves toward the force (including jerking). Pushing - exerting force upon an object so the object moves away from the force. Reaching - ability to extend hands and arms in any direction. Bending - ability to move at the waist downward and upward with reasonable mobility. Required to use a Bio-Kit and may be exposed to bodily fluids and other contagions. Exposure to extreme weather conditions and fluctuations in temperature.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain daily communication with Operations to stay abreast of any relevant changes to route or ridership.
- Responsible for necessary record keeping functions in conjunction with local and state reporting.
- Responsible for the safe transportation of students to and from school.
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for the operation of school buses.
- Responsible for preventive care of assigned bus; keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections before and after each run and submit work orders for needed repairs.
- Maintain current route maps and folders. It is the driver's responsibility to maintain current folder schedule time and have all changes approved by the supervisor.
- Identify by name, all students who ride the bus.
- Maintain up-to-date seating charts for all runs and submit updated copies to Operations.
- Comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) to assure student records, behavior and readership confidentiality.
- Maintain appropriate student management environment and report student incidents to appropriate administrators.
- Communicate with the schools, parents, and students in such a manner as to encourage their cooperation and respect.
- Administer first aid and follow bio hazard procedures when needed.
- Physically access and operate all emergency equipment and emergency exits, including front, rear, and side emergency doors, roof hatches, and emergency windows.
- Follow the assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
- Operate and monitor communication equipment, including two-way radios.
- Teach bus evacuation procedures to students.
- Be readily able to immediately assist passengers regardless of location in the bus.
- Be able to evacuate the bus from any emergency exit safely and in a timely manner.
- Immediately report all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries, then complete required reports.
- Follow Individual Education Plan (IEP), Student Health Plan, or Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) as appropriate.
- Immediately Report any medical problems experienced by a student(s) in transport to your Transportation Operations Center. Also, call 911 and/or report to the campus nurse upon arrival if immediate medical attention is needed. Follow up with required written documentation.
- Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities as needed.
- Safely fit behind the steering wheel of all CISD school buses without obstructing the movement of the steering wheel.
- Demonstrates ability to adjust to different assignments, student populations and/or campuses on a daily basis.
- Regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Certification:
- Clear and valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) Endorsements or obtain within 45 business days of acquiring Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP)
- Completion of pre-CLP requirements or obtain CLP within 15 business days of hire.
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Ability to complete required bus driver safety training within designated timelines
- Ability to operate all types of buses in the CISD Fleet in a safe and effective manner
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to effectively communicate in English with others in oral and written form
- Ability to read turn-by-turn directions and a route sheet
