UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Release Train Engineer (RTE) in the Operations department. This is a full time position working 8:00am to 5:00pm and will be a hybrid position consisting of working from home and in office.This role reports into the Business Transformation Office (BTO) and will support our digital teams support members across their health journey, develop differentiated products, enable the right care with personalized and timely engagement, and leverage data and digital tools to improve operations. The goal of the team is to advance the development of our platforms by providing the infrastructure, capabilities, analytics and intelligent workflows to augment human delivered care coordination at scale. We will do this through agile and lean research, design and rigorous product management to quickly respond to organizational needs, industry pressures and competitive forces. In order to align our work, foster innovation, and digitally transform our operations, UPMC Health Plan is implementing a Scaled Agile Framework. The Release Train Engineer (RTE) plays a critical role leading and driving the success of this program, while promoting continuous improvement, and acting as a binding agent that connects a ?team of teams?.The RTE will help the participating teams execute agile methodologies and practices, plan on cadence, deliver ?thin slices?, manage impediments and risks to overall delivery, and coach teams and individuals through the agile maturity journey. The RTE will leverage the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and its underlying principles. As a SAFe Agilist, the RTE will support and execute the Program Increment Planning events and coordinate multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTs).Responsibilities:Plan and lead ART ceremonies and events, such as Program Increment (PI) Planning, Programs Boards, System Demos, etc.. Consistently track and monitor product teams progress after PI planning and provide guidance/support.Work closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, Solution Owners, Tech Leads, DevOps, Enterprise & System Architects, and the Value Stream to support the ART in delivering on the PI Objectives ? and help ensure strategy and execution alignment. Facilitate Lean Portfolio Management events and feasibility workshops.Foresee and call out risks/issues on schedule, dependencies, resource capacity, and scope from product teams. Work with product managers to understand and help communicate business priority clearly to engineering teams.Coordinate team dependencies within the same release train and external dependencies from other trains and teams. Assist with decision-making by facilitating feature and capability estimation by teams and the roll-up to epics, where necessary.Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices. Foster continuous improvement, along with acting as a binding agent that connects a ?team of teams.?Drive relentless improvement via Inspect & Adapt workshops, assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train and help them improve velocity and accountability. Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets.Champion the use of KPIs and other objective measures across teams. Keep an objective perspective on issues and troubleshoots by applying agile principles.Bachelor's degree or high school diploma/GED with 12+ years of relevant experience 5+ years of experience working directly with Agile teams on projects as a Scrum Master.Experience as a Release Train Engineer preferred. 9+ years of experience in a professional environment.SAFe certified.RTE certification at time of hire or required within 6 months of start date.CSM, CSP or PMI Agile Certification is a plus.Theoretical and practical knowledge of IT technologies and practices.Expertise in Lean Portfolio Management.Can showcase examples of implementing agile techniques in different cultures and environments.Experience running agile projects of varying size and complexity.
