DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will evaluate the physical qualifications and driving skills of applicants, as well as the mechanical condition of vehicles, following established standards and protocols. You will also perform pre-trip inspections of vehicles before conducting driving tests, ensuring that they have valid inspection stickers, operational lights, working windshield wipers, and other critical safety features, while familiarizing applicants with vehicle controls. Additionally, you will review applications, registrations, and permits for any inconsistencies or signs of fraudulent activity. You will administer knowledge tests for both CDL and Non-CDL applicants to assess their comprehension of motor vehicle regulations and traffic signs. Furthermore, you will evaluate applicants' practical driving abilities and their compliance with traffic laws. At the request of the Driver License Division Management Team, you will conduct audits of Third Party Examiners to verify adherence to contractual obligations, which may include having the Third Party Examiner perform a CDL skills test for the Department Examiner or jointly scoring a CDL skills test. You will also carry out vision assessments, including telebinocular and color perception tests, while ensuring strict adherence to all aspects of the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (commonwealth title); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements:
  • All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment
    or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
