Description
The Delivery Manager oversees all of Schwartz Brothers Bakery direct store deliveries (DSD) activities and ensures products are delivered nightly to customers in a safe and timely manner.
The following position responsibilities are essential functions of the position. Successful job applicants will be able to perform these essential functions with or without requested accommodation.
- Staff, schedule, train and develop drivers and supervisors for all our DSD and warehouse routes.
- Supervises truck drivers to include: motivation, coaching, performance management/counseling, discipline, team member reviews, and terminations.
- Work with management, HR department and our insurance company to design, implement and maintain driver’s SOPs and all required HR/Insurance tests and compliance procedures.
- Assure safe vehicles operating on the roads, fostering a positive safety culture among the delivery department.
- Continually monitor to ensure that delivery fleet vehicles are maintained and repaired as needed.
- Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits of their fleet, monitoring their fleet’s individual CSA scores, meeting with individual drivers, and attending company safety meetings.
- Assure driver manifests and Proof of Delivery documents are collected and maintained, fostering a culture of high standards of customer service.
- Collaborate with customer service, manufacturing, and order fulfillment team to ensure orders are delivered on time as scheduled.
- Main contact to customer service and sales to add or update ship-to routing and delivery information.
- Audit the routes sequencing and restriction monthly to assure efficient and effective delivery operations. Use Nextrac delivery software as a tool to generate performance and rule compliance reports.
- Purchase all the required delivery tools/uniforms needed by drivers.
- Review and approve all delivery department expenses invoices: Fuel, truck wash, monthly leases, rental invoices, towing, maintenance and repair invoices, trays, for example. Ensure department is within budget.
- Work a flexible schedule and be available for emergency road calls. Assist drivers with emergency deliveries when needed.
- Be pro-active and solution-oriented to avoid any service disruption during holidays, severe weather conditions or emergency truck breakdowns. Work with customer service as needed.
- Troubleshoots when loads are in jeopardy of being late to ensure on-time delivery and pick up of customer freight.
- Plans, organizes and manages the work of truck drivers to ensure the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organization requirements (in compliance with FMCSR, DOT, and Company standards).
- Directs investigations to verify and resolve driver, customer, or shipper complaints.
- Works diligently to retain drivers and improve driver morale by building good working relationships with each driver.
- Performs additional responsibilities, although not detailed, as requested by a manager at any time.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitudes:
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Excellent time management and supervisory skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite—Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to effectively read, speak, and communicate in English.
- Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree preferred, but not required.
- At least two (2) years of experience in a management/supervisory role.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000/DOE
