Position Summary:
The Escort Pilot Car Driver will assist in the transportation of large modular units across Michigan and other regional areas, as needed. The Escort Pilot Car Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of oversized loads by guiding and escorting trucks through traffic, around obstacles, and adhering to all state and local regulations. This role is vital for maintaining the safety of both the driver and the public while transporting large modular units.
Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities:

  1. Safely operate a pilot car in front or behind oversized loads to ensure a clear and safe path.
  2. Maintain observational awareness and communicate effectively with truck drivers and other team members via two-way radios or other communication devices.
  3. Provide assistance to Truck Driver and Modular Management Team from load origin to destination for heavy or over-dimensional cargo (Modular Units). Prepares modular units for transport and helps to un-hook them and stage them at the storage yard or at the building site.
  4. Monitor and navigate traffic, ensuring oversized loads comply with all road and safety regulations.
  5. Helps drivers avoid obstacles, negotiate tight corners, ensure clearance of low overpasses and power lines.
  6. Maintain awareness of changing road conditions and adjust accordingly to ensure the safety of the load and public.
  7. Position warning signs, flags, and lights on pilot cars to ensure visibility to other drivers.
  8. Collaborate with law enforcement, transportation officials, and project coordinators when necessary.
  9. Perform vehicle inspections and ensure all equipment (e.g., flags, lights, radios) is in good working order.
  10. Ensure all safety procedures and regulations are followed at all times.
  11. Assists ground crew with securing modular unit on transportation trailer and setting cribbing (heavy wooden structures) to secure modular units.

  1. Regular and predictable attendance within the Ginosko-assigned facilities or as assigned.
  2. Other duties as assigned by Management.
  3. Comply with applicable Federal and/or State OSHA/MIOSHA/DOT regulations.

Education/Certification/Licensing/Experience Requirements:
  1. Education : High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Experience : Three years of related experience required, previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  3. Certificates & Licenses : Valid driver's license required.
  4. CDL driver's license, preferred.
  5. Pilot car certification, preferred, or required upon hire.
  6. Valid automobile insurance required.
  7. Strong knowledge of Michigan roadways and state-specific transport regulations for oversized loads.
  8. Ability to work flexible hours and travel across the state and/or region as needed.
  9. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  10. Ability to remain focused, calm, and vigilant while driving long distances.
  11. Previous experience in escorting oversized loads or driving commercial vehicles is a plus.
  12. Must be 21 years of age or older.

  14. Ability to understand directions and read blueprints is preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  1. Posture : Primarily standing, in a manufacturing environment. Must be able to squat, lift, stretch, crouch, and bend in order to reach all areas of the facility. Must be able to work in and on an overhead structure, as well as below large items. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time while driving the escort vehicle.
  2. High stress: High stress environment due to publishing schedules, stakeholder complaints or incident response.
  3. Discretion : Works independently.
  4. Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time.
  5. Utilizes power tools, phones, and standard building equipment.
  6. Employee is required to perform job duties in accordance with existing health and safety procedures and policies.
  7. Ability to travel locally and regionally as required.
  8. Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
  9. Must be able to lift and move safety equipment (signs, flags, cones) as needed.

Primary Work Location: Romulus, Michigan with driving throughout Michigan and surrounding region.
