Job Summary:

The Senior Center Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting senior center members to and from the senior center, medical appointments, shopping trips, and special events. This role ensures a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for all passengers, while maintaining the vehicle in good operating condition. The driver will also assist passengers with boarding and exiting the bus, including those with limited mobility. This position will also assist with various assignments at the Senior Cetner as directed by the Senior Center Director.


Key Responsibilities:

• Safely operate a bus or shuttle for senior citizens, adhering to traffic laws and local government transportation policies.

• Pick up and drop off seniors at their homes, the senior center, and other designated locations.

• Assist seniors with entering and exiting the vehicle, including securing wheelchairs or mobility aids.

• Maintain a safe and comfortable environment inside the vehicle, ensuring that all safety measures, such as seat belts and wheelchair restraints, are properly used.

• Conduct regular vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance needs or safety concerns to the supervisor.

• Keep accurate records of routes, passenger information, vehicle maintenance, and any incidents that occur during transport.

• Provide courteous and compassionate customer service to all passengers, addressing their concerns or needs during transit.

• Follow schedules and routes efficiently, ensuring timeliness for pickups and drop-offs.

• Assist the Senior Center Program Director with planning and coordinating transportation for special events or outings.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal transportation regulations.


Qualifications:

• Valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger (P) endorsement.

• Clean driving record.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Experience driving buses or large vehicles, preferably in a public or senior services setting.

• Knowledge of local roads, traffic patterns, and senior care practices.

• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety checks.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on patience and empathy.

• Ability to assist passengers with physical limitations and provide help with mobility devices.


Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit for long periods while driving.

• Physical ability to assist seniors in boarding and exiting the vehicle, including wheelchair handling.

• Ability to perform vehicle inspections and minor maintenance tasks (checking oil, tire pressure, etc.).
