Purpose/Summary :
The General Manager Engineering and Project Delivery is the lead person in the USMMI organization for new project development, fleet modernization and shipyard project execution. The GM E&PD manages a team of USMMI personnel in researching, planning and execution of these tasks. When necessary, the GM Engineering and Project Delivery contracts for additional technical resources/services on a short or long-term basis to accomplish tasks and support the portfolio of projects.
As USMMI business grows, and justification for hiring additional full-time staff for the projects team develops, the GM Engineering and Project Delivery will inform the VP Operations regarding the skill sets needed. The GM E&PD develops budgets for projects ensuring all internal stakeholders agree and has budgetary & expense approval for delivering of those projects.
Key Responsibilities :
  • Be an advocate for shipboard safety, the company safety culture and actively support timely attention to any safety issue.
  • Responsible for delivery of engineering, design project planning and project delivery for USMMI projects to include support of company portfolio growth, vessel acquisitions, and complex availabilities for existing fleet.
  • Responsible to ensure new technology integration and ship upgrades are compliant with class rules and flag state guidelines.
  • When tasked by VP Operations, oversee development of work specifications for voyage & emergency repairs.
  • Oversee development of intermediate/special survey/dry-dock specifications and oversee all aspects of successful completion of dry-docking and associated surveys including coordinating site supervision.
  • Lead efforts to perform risk assessments for innovative projects.
  • Develop management of change plans for projects that represent a significant deviation from previous status quo.
  • Ensure project implementation is carried out in accordance with USMMI ISM procedures.
  • Act on continuous improvement initiatives with timely attention and completion in a cost-efficient manner.
Position Specifications :
Education and Experience
The successful, applicant must meet one of the following experience criteria.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required. Degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent degree is required.
  • USCG License or equivalent international standard as Chief Engineer
  • Experience as Port Engineer that has included complex projects
  • Equivalent experience / service with a classification or Flag State authority with direct exposure to vessel regulatory compliance
  • Project management experience and vessel management experience
  • Must be a U.S, Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret level security clearance from the Defense Security Service (DSS).
  • Random drug testing required.

  • Computer literacy in PC and Marine Management Software systems

Travel Requirements:
Extensive travel (including foreign travel and travel in cars, boats, ships, and airplanes) will be required to meet with OEMs regarding available equipment and technology, meet with ship design firms regarding conversion and/or new build projects, attend to shipyard maintenance and system sea trials, and on short notice for casualties, to conduct investigations and to protect the company's reputation.

General office setting , typically the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work, usually at a computer terminal with short breaks or lunch period. Should be able to hear & speak clearly using phone / headset to communicate with customers; be able to navigate, view & enter information on the computer.
Operations Setting: typically, the employee must be able to Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Push/Pull, Kneel, Squat, Reaching and Twisting. Also need the ability to consistently be able to lift 10lb - 100lb utilizing Folding Hand Truck & Dolly, Rolling Utility Carts or Single Hand Trucks (70 - 100%) of time
