General Statement of Job
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Performs routine activities driving a city-owned vehicle to transport clients to special care facilities, medical appointments, and other designated locations in a responsible and timely manner. Work involves operating a passenger bus or similar passenger vehicle, following an assigned and fixed route, maintaining adherence to pick up and drop off schedules, and interacting frequently and courteously with the public.
Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Social Services Supervisor or designee.

Drives a variety of passenger vehicles to transport residents from their homes or designated locations to medical offices, special care facilities, and other designated locations in a safe and timely manner.
Operates vehicles and adheres to established routes and schedules; follows all city and regulatory policies and procedures; maintains vehicle records and travel and passenger logs; reports all incidents and accidents per established guidelines.
Maintains constant awareness of the physical well-being of passengers; uses a two-way radio to acquire assistance or send notification when the well-being of passengers is in question.
Interacts and communicates with a variety of individuals, specifically the city's senior citizen population; provides accurate and thorough information to passengers.
Assists clients with physical disabilities, pushing wheelchairs as necessary; responds to all requests with patience and a willingness to help.
Performs daily vehicle safety check per established protocols; checks the wheelchair lift and ensures the vehicle is fueled; reports any atypical conditions and/or potential repair issues; maintains the interior and exterior cleanliness of assigned vehicles.
Learns to plan and assign the daily transportation schedule.
Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits paperwork necessary for proper transportation service records such as passenger, mileage, daily activity reports, transportation schedules, and fuel logs.
Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.
Demonstrates behaviors that support the City's Vision and Values.
Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city's obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Pay and Bargaining Status
This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by qualified professional transportation or driving experience, and a clean driving record; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Required Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a Broward County Chauffer's Registration and valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.
Must possess or obtain within four (4) months of hire, CPR/First Aid Certification.
