What will the Shuttle Van Driver do?
Performs all functions according to established policies and procedures related to supporting the process to satisfy our customers’ demands by providing support to our auto haulers in the designated terminal location.
What is the Shuttle Van Driver responsible for?
1. Start of Shift

  • Report to supervisor/clock in.
  • Perform Daily Shuttle Van Safety Check.
  • Report any discrepancies to your supervisor.
  • Check oil, antifreeze level, belts, and hoses for any leaks or if any are broken.
  • Start engine, turn on all lights and beacon, turn on 4way flashers.
  • Walk around unit and make sure all are working.
  • Make sure all tires are inflated, free of cuts, and have proper tread.
  • All windows are clear of snow, frost, etc.
  • Operate wipers, test horn.
2. Inventory/ Supplies
  • Clip board with paper and pencil/pen to log in trucks.
  • Trash bag.
  • Water.
  • Cooler with ice.
  • Radio/phone to commutate with dispatch.
  • Maps to yard if needed to hand out.
3. Responsibilities
  • Shuttling: Help Auto Haulers to locate units to be loaded.
  • NOTE 15M.P.H Max. Speed allowed on ramps.
  • Flashers must be on at all times while traveling in yard.
  • While backing you must sound horn twice and look before proceeding, avoid backing.
  • Stay to the side where the auto hauler is going to disembark and just past the unit they want, have them cross behind shuttle.
  • Cleanliness of the shuttle must be kept up at all times.
  • All supplies will be given to you by supervisor.
  • Remove trash and park shuttle were instructed to by supervisor.
  • Do a post walk around making sure that all windows are up, and doors are secured.
4. Yard Maintenance
  • Be aware of the yard cleanliness.
  • If a VTC auto hauler is littering, and can be identified, report immediately to supervisor.
  • If straps, rubber blocks, etc. are being left by VTC auto haulers they must be cleaned up and reported to supervisor.
  • Report any problems to the supervisor immediately.
  • Inventory: Daily check and control.
  • Load Audits: Check for proper skid extension, pinning of decks, strap placement & securement, and height stick being used.
  • Complete all tasks assigned by management.
5.Golas
  • Keep auto haulers in motion to reduce wasteful time spent looking for vehicles.
  • Assist dispatch with efficiency and organization.
  • Reduce risk of injuries.

What knowledge, skills and abilities are required for the Shuttle Van Driver role?
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
2. Ability to rapidly analyze issues, establish priorities, anticipate consequences, make decisions and initiate action.
3. Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws, rules, regulations and safety.
4. Attention to detail and possess a high level of accuracy.
5. Ability to provide positive reinforcement and possess a positive attitude.
6. Must possess ability to provide follow up to drivers and dispatch team.
7. Comfortable working in a high-stress environment and ability to stay calm under pressure.
8. Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with dispatchers and drivers.
9. Strong communication skills (oral, written and listening) with motivational ability.
10. Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with time constraints, interruptions and stressed dispatchers and drivers.
11. Work may require more than 40 hours per week.
12. Must be available to work on weekends or holidays, as needed.
13. (VTC will assist with training) Certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
14. (VTC will assist with training) Reasonable suspicion training.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and hot/cold outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work area may be loud.
Visual requirements include reading off a computer screen as well as printed materials.
Verbal and auditory requirements include the ability to communicate clearly over the telephone as well as in person.
There is a high level of grasping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects of more than 25 lbs. Along with extended period of standing or walking.
