The Late Night Shuttle Driver helps facilitate the operation of the University’s late-night shuttle known as the Starlight Shuttle that provides students with a reliable way to get around campus and the community after local bus service ends. This is a professional driving position within the Transportation Services Department. Daily work duties will include a mix of driving, dispatching, vehicle servicing, and various other tasks. The Driver reports directly to the Shuttle Operations Manager. This is a hybrid position; the Driver works remotely during their non-driving shifts dispatching.Required Qualifications21 years of age or older.Able to maintain focus and attention on safe driving.Ability to consistently conduct self in a mature, professional and respectful demeanor with equal regard to all contacts.Ability to follow directions and administrative policies, procedures, and guidelines.Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, detail-oriented and time-sensitive environment.Access to internet and workstation at home to dispatch on non-driving days.Have a current valid Washington state driver’s license and have had a valid driver’s license for at least five (5) years. Include a copy of Driver License with application.Within the past three (3) years, no suspension/revocation of license for reckless driving, hit and run, leaving an accident scene, failure to appear, DUI, or other vehicle-related felony; or multiple traffic offenses (4 moving violations/infractions in 12 months/5 moving violations/infractions in 24 months) resulting in a Conditional Status driving record or subsequent suspension/revocation of license, or 6 or more moving violations within a 12-month period resulting in license suspension. Include a copy of Abstract of Driving Record with application.Comfortable with using smart phone/tablet technology including apps, cameras and GPS functions.Able to pass a university provided driver training course including the university large passenger van training course.Must repeat training courses annually and attend any other specific departmental training courses.Available to attend a two-week training course during daylight hours prior to operating a shuttle at night.Maintain eligibility to drive, including a valid driver's license, throughout employment.Physical Demands:Able to lift 50 pounds.Comfortable with and capable of lifting and securing bicycles to racks.Comfortable with and capable of operating a wheelchair lift and securing the chair with straps and tie downs.Able to sit for extended periods, consistent with contemporary professional driver standards.Be physically capable of assisting passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle.Must be comfortable working at night, driving in inclement weather, and navigating roads during hours of darkness.Preferred QualificationsProfessional passenger carrying driving experience.Background in customer service, interacting with the public and handling difficult/stressful situations.Familiarity with the WWU campus and the City of Bellingham.Experience with dispatching, administrative support, and monitoring multiple lines of communication simultaneously.Experience working late at night or other irregular hours.Experience providing services to people with disabilities.Previous work experience in a remote setting.Conditions of EmploymentAll employees must comply with our Immunization policies, includingProof of Rubeola Measles Immunity ( within 60-days of hire.
