Job Summary
Specific Statement of Duties
1. Bus drivers shall work under the immediate supervision of the
Superintendent/Principal. They shall obey all state and District laws and
regulations related to pupil transportation. They are required to hold valid bus
drivers' certificates and meet all other legal requirements.
2. Each bus shall be inspected by the driver daily, before transporting pupils to
ascertain that it is in safe condition, equipped properly and in good working order
(according to Ed. Code 14241). A weekly written report is to be submitted to the
Superintendent/Principal indicating the condition of the bus and recommending any
repairs deemed necessary.
3. Drivers shall follow State regulations and District policy as to discipline on the bus,
and shall promptly report to the Superintendent/Principal any major infraction of
rules. Bus drivers shall also comply with the requirements of Title 5, section
14200-14278 which are incorporated into these rules.
4. A bus driver shall not transport pupils in a school bus at any time unless, in their
opinion, the bus is in a safe operating condition. In addition to driving their
assigned routes at the assigned times, they shall clean their buses and do similar
related work as directed. A bus driver shall not change his assigned route or
assigned stops thereon, except as directed by the Superintendent/Principal.
5. Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops; escort children across
streets or roadways, stopping traffic as necessary; report incidents or conditions
affecting the safety of students as appropriate.
6. Maintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle
inspections including cleaning windows, mirrors and bus interior and exterior;
check and maintain fuel, oil and water levels; check brakes, brake lights, wheel
chair lifts and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate
personnel.

Education / Certification:
Basic Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver's license Class A or B
3. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Special Drivers Certificate*
4. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Medical Examiners Certificate
5. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid American Red Cross First Aid Certificate
6. Good driving record with no DUI conviction in the past 10 years
7. Ability to obtain and meet all requirements on Application Checklist
*Training may be provided by the District.
