The Opportunity:

The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications for the Walking Courier . The Walking Courier is responsible for performing an all-day walking route within the Multnomah County Courthouse, transporting files and office supplies between the Multnomah County District Attorney (MCDA) units located on three floors of the courthouse and the Multnomah County Justice Center.

The Walking Courier is a vital member of our team responsible for efficiently unloading supplies, moving boxes of file folders, forms, papers, and other items associated with the services. The specific walking route involves navigating within the courthouse, heading to the Multnomah County Justice Center and delivering to the 3rd floor District Attorney Intake Unit. The Walking Courier role is to handle the internal transport of material to facilitate the efficient processing of cases for potential criminal prosecution by the MCDA.

This position is located at the Central Courthouse 1200 SW 1st Avenue Suite #5200, Portland, Oregon. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch.

Below is a brief summary of the position:

Mail Distribution (US postal and Interoffice)

  • Sort and inspect items and confirm route before delivery; ensure proper loading before and during transport; load and unload items safely using a pushcart, or by hand; obtain and maintain correct delivery authorization and pick-up documentation when needed.

  • Assist in the planning and designing of delivery mail stops for accuracy; adjust routes based on conditions, special pick-up and delivery requests, and other support staff needs; make miscellaneous deliveries and pick-ups as requested.

  • Assist staff with mailing and shipping services; sort, tray, band, and label mail based on mailing standards; operate mailing equipment according to office practices.

  • Pick up and deliver interoffice mail at county locations; check satellite offices bags; secure, organize, and maintain access for items at joint storage areas.

Mail Coordination

  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail, office supplies, and other materials; process, and review documents for distribution; follows mail distribution schedule and timelines and provide training coverage as needed.

  • Order and maintain office supplies; record information such as the number of products tested, packaged, etc.

File maintenance

  • Gather, sort, arrange, and file documents with the appropriate unit; review files for accurate distribution.

  • Loose papers on open cases should be scanned and filed by upcoming hearing dates. These should stay current.

Required Minimum Qualifications / *Transferable Skills:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade; AND

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 0-1 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

Other: Candidates must successfully pass a thorough criminal background check and post-offer urine drug screen.

Type of Position: This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime.
