Wheelchair Van Driver Job Description
A wheelchair van driver, also known as a chair car driver, provides safe and efficient non-emergency transportation for disabled, handicapped, or elderly persons to and from their destinations including medical appointments, procedures, and healthcare facilities. Wheelchair van and bus drivers will aid patients as they enter and exit the vehicle, secure wheelchairs, and ensure safety at all times. Cataldo is the largest private EMS provider and private ambulance service in Massachusetts. In addition to topping 50,000 emergency medical transportations annually through 911 contacts with multiple cities, we partner with some of Massachusetts top medical facilities to provide non-emergency medical ambulance and wheelchair transportation services. As a public health resource, Cataldo offers training and education to the healthcare and emergency medical community through the Cataldo Education Center. This includes certification training for new employees as well as the training needed for career advancement. Through our partnerships with health systems, hospitals, managed care organizations, and others, we continue to provide in-home care through the state's first and largest Mobile Integrated Health program, SmartCare. We also have delivered more than 1.7 million Covid-19 vaccines and continue to operate testing and vaccination sites throughout the state of Massachusetts.

Wheelchair Van Driver Job Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients to and from medical appointments, procedures, and healthcare facilities.
- Assist patients with entering and exiting the vehicle, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.
- Properly secure wheelchairs for transportation
- Maintain a clean and well-equipped vehicle, adhering to all safety and cleanliness standards.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, healthcare professionals, and patients to coordinate pick-up and drop-off times and locations.
- Provide exceptional customer service, demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and respect for patients and their families.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations, prioritizing the safety of patients and other road users at all times.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing schedules and patient needs.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and promptly, including trip logs, mileage records, and incident reports.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Uphold the values and mission of Cataldo Ambulance Service , promoting a culture of excellence and compassion in all interactions.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record through a DMV background check
- CPR Certified (we will provide training and certification if needed)
- Commitment to providing exemplary customer service
- Previous experience in patient transportation, delivery driver, bus driver, customer service, or a related field preferred
- Pass a background check including CORI
- Pass a drug screen and lift test
- Ability to lift and maneuver 125 pounds with assistance and without difficulty
- Ability to maneuver a patient-loaded wheelchair up and down three stairs without difficulty
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to walk without difficulty and without impact to the immediate performance of job-related duties
- Starting wages $17/hour, commensurate with experience
