The Doe Run Company is seeking a Furnace & Crane Operator to complete duties in the hot metals department in order to support furnace operations (including blast, reverb & sweat) and support positions (feed floor, loader operator and slag treatment). This position will be located at The Buick Resource Recycling Facility in Boss, MO.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of three years of work experience. Manufacturing, refinery, or casting preferred.
- Basic knowledge/familiarity with PLC systems and process monitoring.
- Proficient in large mobile equipment operation.
- Proficient skills in general maintenance: ability to tighten, lubricate and clean mechanical parts, maintain hydraulic fluid levels, and change belts.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Basic understanding of chemistry or furnace operation.
- Follow furnace process and procedures to smelt lead material.
- Monitor furnace functioning and adjust feed rate and air flow within operational parameters.
- Monitor the chemistry and levels of slag & lead, making needed adjustments.
- Perform work area and machinery pre-shift inspections and maintain a clean work area.
- Perform general inspections and maintenance on equipment and machinery.
- Act as a resource and provide assistance to the furnace department, maintaining familiarity with all related jobs (feed floor, slag system, loader operator) providing backup support where needed.
- Operate overhead crane, bobcat, and other equipment as needed to support furnace operations.
- Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Regularly required to wear personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, respirator, hearing protection and eyewear and work near moving, mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to vibration, loud noise levels and extreme heat. Occasionally work with fall protection when working at heights of 4’ or more.
- Frequently requires walking, reaching with ands/arms, repetitive movement, and moving up and down from/to a sitting position on the floor. Occasionally requires sitting, talking, feeling attributes of objects, grasping, pushing, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, or balancing. Requires clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds. Rarely required to lift up to 100 pounds.
