School Bus Driver @ Transportation Department

CLASS TITLE : SCHOOL BUS DRIVER
DEFINITION : Under general supervision, operates a school vehicle in transporting children to and from school and on special trips; and performs related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES :

• Develops the most efficient route for the transportation of assigned students
• Drives bus along a route, stops at designated points to pick up or discharge students
• Maintains order and enforces rules
• Reports and cities for disciplinary action in cases of extreme or repeated unruliness
• Reports incidents
• Files accident reports when necessary
• Makes routine safety checks on vehicle
• Reports problems or equipment malfunctioning
• Maintains records of all trips
• Keeps bus clean

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :
Training and Experience : None
Knowledge of :

• Motor vehicle regulations and special codes and regulations related to school buses
• Safe driving practices

Skills in :

• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others

Ability to :

• Maintain order under difficult circumstances
• Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
• Keep records
• Maintain good public relations

Licenses and Certificates :

• Possession of a valid California Class B driver's license
• Class A Bus Driver's Certificate issued by the California Highway
