Job Summary

UT Southwestern is seeking an Overnight Supervisor, Patient Transport. The Overnight Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the night time operations of the Patient Transport Department.

Experience and Education

  • Minimum Education and Experience:
    • High school graduation or GED required, some college preferred.
    • Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
    • Minimum of two (2) years' experience with patient transportation, equipment maintenance or other patient care related activities required.
  • Minimum License and Certificates Required:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS), course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by the first day of employment is required.

Job Duties

  1. Maintains friendly, efficient service attitude towards patients and staff. Builds solid working relationships with all Patient Transporters and provides support to remove obstacles for them at all times.
  2. On-site supervision of day-to-day operations of the Patient Transport department functions. Directly supervises Patient Transporters and Lead Patient Transporters.
  3. Conducts performance evaluations and ensures that all employees have the skills and training needed to perform their job. Makes recommendations to improve scores from Glint Survey.
  4. Assists Patient Transport Manager and other departments to ensure successful business operations and problem solve to mitigate issues.
  5. Assists with providing transportation of patients and items to various areas of the institution as determined by the number of pending requests.
  6. Must be able to work as a Transporter on the floor if needed during high volume periods.
  7. Provides direction, development, and guidance to Patient Transporters.
  8. Maintains pro-active approach with addressing or implementing changes impacting various processes within the transport area.
  9. Greets patients and family members professionally and verifies patient identification, maintaining confidentiality in accordance with University and departmental policy (HIPAA).
  10. Sustains PACT cards and Rewards Program to create a healthy work environment for staff.
  11. Maintains proper cleanliness of equipment and reports equipment needing repairs.
  12. Motivates and nurtures team while rounding and providing transport support as needed.
  13. Seeks to understand the needs of internal and external customers; meeting and exceeding those needs. Serves as a liaison between patients, their families, friends, and our medical staff. Performs other duties as required to provide fast and friendly genuine hospitality.
  14. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  15. Participates in Monthly Meetings and/or educational activities.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment.
  • Requires standing, walking for long periods of time and must be able to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment.
  • Requires walking, bending, pushing, stooping, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Please Note: You may be required to transport Covid-19 suspected and/or positive patients. You will be provided with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
