Job Title: Vice President of Estimating - Power Delivery

Job Summary:

The Vice President of Estimating - Power Delivery/Substation Projects is a key executive role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the estimating process for power delivery and substation construction projects. This position requires a deep understanding of the energy infrastructure sector, particularly in high-voltage transmission, distribution, and substation projects. The VP of Estimating will lead a team of estimators, ensuring accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates that support the company’s strategic growth and profitability objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy:

    • Develop and implement the overall strategy for the estimating department in alignment with company goals and market conditions.
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of estimators and cost engineers, fostering a culture of accuracy, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with executive leadership to align estimating strategies with business development and project execution goals.
  • Estimating & Pre-Construction:

    • Oversee the preparation of detailed, accurate, and competitive cost estimates for power delivery and substation projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
    • Ensure that all estimates comply with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
    • Review and validate estimates for complex and high-value projects, providing expert guidance to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
    • Lead the development of risk assessments and contingency plans within estimates to mitigate potential project risks.
  • Process Improvement & Technology:

    • Drive the adoption of best practices, tools, and technologies in estimating to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration.
    • Implement and refine estimating software and tools, ensuring the team is equipped with cutting-edge resources.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve estimating processes to increase productivity, reduce errors, and shorten turnaround times.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Work closely with project management, engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure estimates align with project requirements and execution strategies.
    • Engage with clients, contractors, and vendors to gather data, negotiate costs, and ensure the integrity of estimates.
    • Represent the estimating department in executive meetings, client presentations, and industry forums.
  • Financial Management:

    • Develop and manage the estimating department's budget, ensuring resource allocation aligns with organizational priorities.
    • Monitor the financial performance of projects against estimates, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
    • Provide input into the company’s financial forecasting and business planning processes based on market trends and estimating data.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in estimating or cost management, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role within the power delivery or energy infrastructure sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of power delivery systems, substation construction, and industry-specific estimating practices.
  • Proven track record of delivering accurate and competitive estimates for large-scale, complex projects.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budget management, cost control, and financial reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
