MATERIAL HANDLER/DRIVER I
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
With general instructions from the Warehouse Supervisor to complete assigned tasks with limited guidance on methods, procedures, or techniques. Receives, stores, and documents inventory from shipments. Picks, packs, and stages orders. Distribute and relocate custodial and office supplies, furniture, books, and equipment to schools and other locations throughout the district. Communicates both verbally and written with internal and external customers. The incumbent performs related work as required.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives shipments; unloads trucks with forklift or electric pallet jack; checks shipments for accuracy against invoice and purchase order; makes appropriate entries on delivery form, stock records and other related documents; notifies supervisor of discrepancies; conveys stock to storage area or directly to specific department by hand, hand trucks, forklifts, or electric pallet jacks; and picks, packs and stages orders from stock; manually loads items for delivery; verifies load against manifest; operates trucks up to five (5) tons with 2-speed axles containing air brakes to transport supplies and furniture on delivery routes and relocation requests to and from specific district sites on a daily basis; ensures proper handling of items during the loading, transit, unloading, and storage process.
Inspects trucks and equipment on a regular basis; identifies needed repairs and notifies supervisor; maintains vehicle (including fueling), performs preventative maintenance on forklifts and electric jacks, disposes of warehouse trash to keep areas in a clean and safe condition.
Assists in the relocation of district departments; analyzes, coordinates, and implements each moving occurrence to ensure the safest and most efficient means is being used to transport items; moves items such as music, shop and athletic equipment, between district sites and business; handles secured material such as testing material; may assist in the evacuation of buildings during and after floods by loading and unloading district vehicles with property and equipment. Provides Customer Service to District schools, business, and public. Assists in taking periodic inventory. Make quality and safety inspections on relocated furniture and equipment with limited supervision and reports findings to supervisor, if directed disposes of property in the approved appropriate manor Works closely with Property Control and IT, reporting tag numbers and organizing equipment for safe transport to the correct locations.
When working in Teachers' Warehouse:
Communicates with vendors and public; Prepares for End of Year Inventory and records inventory count sheets into a Spreadsheet for tax purposes for Education Alliance. Evaluates potential donations with Supervisor for reuse value and allowable storage space, picks up donations, provides receipts for donations, records donation, and shopper information into an Excel spreadsheet. Sends out Thank you letters. Recognize hazardous materials and use safe handling practices, storing products in designated areas.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and experience would be:

  1. Equivalent to a high school diploma
AND
  1. One (1) year of responsible experience driving a delivery route
AND
  1. One (1) year of general warehousing, stock, or inventory control experience.

Knowledge of: Reading, writing, and basic math; basic computer skills; state and local traffic laws and regulations, including defensive driving and emergency procedures; SDS sheets and the safety precautions required for hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
Skill at: Operating vehicles up to five (5) tons, with2-speed axles containing air brakes in heavy traffic situations and around crowds; using appropriate judgment in meeting unforeseen or bad weather conditions; lifting and carrying heavy or large objects up to 100 pounds and 50 pounds over head; stacking, moving, and arranging items on pallets; using computer operating systems such as EXCEL, WORD and OUTLOOK; moving, storing or displaying furniture or other equipment; able to follow verbal or written instructions; good communication skills; establishing and maintaining good working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing assigned duties; maintaining inventory records; operating light auxiliary equipment, such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks along with dollies, 4 wheelers and hand trucks; and accurately picking orders for processing.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Nevada State Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 3 months of employment, with a driving record acceptable to the district.
Conditions of Employment: The law mandates that employees must pass a DOT physical examination, with the cost covered by the employee. Additionally, employees are required to maintain a satisfactory driving record, with no more than three moving violations in the past two years. DUIs and reckless or careless driving violations within the past ten years may disqualify an applicant. During the interview, applicants must provide a printout of their driving record for the past ten years, obtainable from the DMV at their own expense. Applicants and employees in this position are subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing as required by law, including pre-employment and random drug tests, and must complete the WCSD driving and safety course prior to appointment.

This is a 40 hour per week, 260 day position.
