Vaagen Bros. currently employs over 200 employees.The primary role of the Forklift position is to transfer units of lumber with a continued focus on safety, and productivity. A desirable candidate will have a great deal of attention to detail and respect for people and company property.JOB DESCRIPTION:Transfer stacked units of inventory according to set standardsMonitor the quality of product and notify the appropriate personnel if substandard conditions existTag units with bar-code tags for inventory tracking and planning purposesLoad and even end stickers for the stackerFix all units that are not stacked properly, stack drop-out lumberEmpty board racks, board bin, and sticker bin into the Whole Log Chipper dailyPerforms mandatory pre-shift checklists and daily maintenance recordsAssist with preventive/predictive maintenance activities and cleaningMaintain an organized yard by length, width, and speciesMove and/or load trucks and unload deliveriesAssist in training and mentoring of new employees```{=html}``` - Float between departments to assist in areas of greatest need - Know, Understand, and Apply the Lock-out Tag-out procedures - Entry level laborer sawmill duties, including but not limited to, stacking boards, general cleanup, removal of wood waste and debris, and tending machines - Maintain a clean and safe work area. - Ensure tools, supplies, and equipment are always in their "home locations" - Maintain lines of communication with other team members - Learning and applying lean business practices - Fill out a maintenance request and Idea Cards when needed - Other duties as assignedJOB REQUIREMENTS:Ensure safe work practices & follow safety proceduresDependable and reliable with a good attendance recordAbility to streamline processes and cut waste within area of responsibilityLean techniques and experience preferredMust be 18+ years old to work in an industrial sawmill environmentMust have HS Diploma/GEDMust be able to continuously stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders safely. The weight required to be lifted each normal workday may occasionally exceed fifty (50) pounds at a timeApplicants will be subject to a criminal background check.
