Job Summary:
The Mosaic, Jekyll Island Museum, is hiring several Trolley Drivers to provide safe and timely transportation for school groups, motor coach groups, and the public, serving a wide range of audiences for the Gilded Age Ghosts & Ghouls tours and the Holly Jolly Jekyll light tours. Under general supervision, the Trolley Driver will perform general operational duties such as safely driving trolleys for evening and night tours, ensuring narration system is fully operational, prioritizing guest safety, providing security for tour homes and objects in the museum collection, interacting with guests, providing information and answering questions in a professional manner. While expected to provide excellent customer service to visitors, this position is not an interpreter and is not required to provide narration or historical information. This position is anticipated to start late September and continue through early January.
Description:
  • Drives vehicle towing multiple trolley cars for seasonal evening and night tours of the Jekyll Island Club National Historic Landmark.
  • Follows all motor vehicle laws and regulations as mandated by the State of Georgia and Mosaic, Jekyll Island Museum.
  • Ensures the narration system is fully operational and strictly follows the tour schedule, arriving at and departing from each tour landmark and stop on time
  • Escort guests through tours and into historic buildings, historical interpretation is not required.
  • Provides security for museum properties and collections and ensures guest safety.
  • Performs custodial duties as needed.
  • Will be cross trained to assist with ticket redemption, as needed.
  • Participate in mandatory staff development training.
  • Maintains a cooperative and pleasant work relationship with fellow employees, volunteers, and guests of Jekyll Island.
  • Nights and weekends are required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid drivers license.
  • Positive, friendly, outgoing, adaptable personality is a must.
  • Must be self-motivated; able to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to safely operate trolleys, golf cart, and vehicles at slow speeds in dense traffic including vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
  • Must have flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • More than 50% of the typical workday may be spent walking, sitting and standing.
  • Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday may be spent climbing stairs, pushing and pulling.
  • Less than 25% of the typical day is spent balancing, stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, reaching, sitting and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands or fingers.
  • Sensory abilities required are feeling, grasping and touching with more than 50% of the time spent talking and hearing.
  • Visual abilities to perform tasks required are to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment and determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
  • Required to perform work in outdoor environmental conditions. Exposure to extreme heat, high humidity and occasionally adverse weather conditions as well occasional extreme cold.
  • Will be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles.
  • Will be subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, oils, odors, dusts, mists, or poor ventilation.
  • Will be subject to close quarters, such as narrow aisles or passageways/hallways.
  • Noise levels are considered normal to loud, requiring worker to shout.
