About
Performs a variety of responsible semi-skilled work in the operation of a passenger van used to transport the elderly, children, and the general public, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Transit Operations Supervisor.
Essential Functions
Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. outdoors, heavy traffic).
Physical Demands
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work requires distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and frequently exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Essential Functions
- Transporting and assisting the elderly, persons with disabilities, children and the general public while maintaining van equipment and record keeping.
- Ensures the safe pick up and return of passengers.
- Ensures vans are properly fueled and maintained
- Maintains the van in good working order by regularly checking operating parts: and systems such as checking the fluid levels, checking tire pressure, checking belts and taking the van to the garage when scheduled for service.
- Washes and cleans the van as needed.
- Maintains passenger and trip records.
- Assists passengers on and off the van.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- The Wellness Center is open M-W-F 8am -12pm and 1pm to 4pm and T-TH 8am-12pm.
- The Wellness Center is a partnership between Transylvania County and the City of Brevard.
- County Employees may use the Wellness Center for all services at no cost.
- Dependents over the age of 12 who are on your Medical plan may also use the Wellness Center.
- Appointments are encouraged to help minimize any wait and to make the Center Services flow easier.
- Time away from your work location to visit the Wellness Center is not changed to leave.
- Services include: Routine bloodwork monitoring, allergy injections, monitoring chronic illnesses, manage and authorize prescriptions, coordinate referrals, school physicals and testing for flu, mono and strep.
