Hostler Driver - Ground Person

Pay Rate: $20.09 hourly

• Starting pay is $20.09 per hour which increases to $21.12 per hour after six (6) months and $23.69 per hour after one year of service.

Shift 1 : 12:00 AM-8:30 AM
Shift 2: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
Shift 3: 4:00 PM-12:30 AM

• Must have open availability to work any needed shift and weekends. Employees are subject to a shift change every six months. The following schedules are seniority-based:
• Once certified as a driver, mandatory overtime is given based on operational demand.

Summary:

• In this position you will train first as a Ground Person for a minimum of two weeks. You will be responsible for directing crane operators who are loading and unloading cargo containers from railcars and will be responsible for preparing railcars for loading and unloading by removing and installing IBC locks.
• Once the Ground Person training is complete you will be trained to operate a Hostler truck and will perform a variety of driving tasks, including hauling containers from the rail track to other areas of the intermodal yard for outside driver pickup, moving chassis, and moving containers about the intermodal yard in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities:

• Operate hostler truck to move trailers and containers around the yard.
• Assist with loading and unloading of cargo from trailers and containers.
• Perform routine maintenance on hostler truck and other equipment as needed.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Experience operating a hostler truck or similar equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.

This position is unionized and after a 120-day probation period, you will become a union member.
