Job Summary
The Driver is responsible for ensuring safe driving of the community's vehicles and supervision of the residents during community outings or trips. Additionally, they may assist in setting up and breaking down activities and events at the Community, in accordance with property policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities
- Operate community vehicles safely on outings, excursions, special activities, and personal resident appointments
- Assist with the safe loading of residents and their belongings on-to and off-of community vehicles
- Follow all state and federal laws when operating the community vehicles
- Comply with standards and processes of proper vehicle inspection and driving. Demonstrate safe driving in getting residents transported. Observes speed limits yet is still punctual and safe in transporting people
- Makes residents feel comfortable when being transported through positive interaction
- Participate in outings/excursions with the residents to include assistance in and out of the vehicles, supervision of residents, assistance with personal care, and participation in planned activities
- Act as a member of the activity staff when on outings/excursions and within the community
- Responsible for ensuring that the community's vehicles are in proper operational order, registration and insurance information is present and up-to-date
- Complete daily and weekly safety check inspecting lights, seat belts, and steering and looks for fluid leaks to verify that there are no problems. Promptly report all vehicle safety, mechanical or maintenance issues to supervisor. Schedule vehicle service as needed or directed
- Ensure Community vehicles are left with an appropriate amount of fuel for the following day/shift. Put gasoline in vehicles as required or directed
- Clean and vacuum the inside of vehicles after outings/excursions to ensure that there is no litter left behind and is clean for next use. Wash the exterior of the vehicles as required or instructed
- Train community staff on the proper loading/unloading of the vehicles and wheelchair lifts usage, if applicable
- Maintain communication with the property through use of the cell phone and/or radio. Keep cell phone and/or radio charged and on during the workday
- Assist with planned property activities and programs within the community in between scheduled vehicle trips. This may include event or room set-up or clean- up tasks
- Relieve the community's concierge for rest and/or meal periods as requested
- Deliver residents' dry cleaning, letters, flyers and packages as requested
- Stock café throughout the day ensuring resident satisfaction with availability of food items, beverages and utensils/napkins/cups/etc as requested
- Provide additional resident services such as dog walking, pet feeding, pet litter- box cleaning, watering plants, etc., as requested
- Assist Maintenance Department with light maintenance work orders (replace light bulbs, clean up spills, etc.) as requested
- Perform day-to-day clerical work connected with the position
- Understand that resident safety is paramount. Offer feedback to Activity Director and/or Executive Director on ways to improve safety during vehicle trips, activities and excursions
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
- Obtain and maintain a current Class B driver license to transport residents
- Prefer two years experience driving a vehicle/van/bus transporting people
- Able to safely operate and perform general preventative maintain on a vehicle/van/bus
- Able to safely operate standard household equipment (dishwasher, iron, vacuum, washer, dryer)
- Able to operate a personal computer and have knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Able to operate standard office equipment, including fax machine, copier, telephone, etc
- Knowledge of and/or ability to learn the theory and practice of assisted living and dementia care
- Able to work with seniors and patiently interact with cognitively impaired individuals
- Able to be flexible, adapt and respond to change, make decisions in stressful situations and prioritize tasks and projects
- Able to process information and apply common sense understanding to follow and carry out written or oral instructions
- Able to analyze, solve and respond to problems or concerns
- Able to count and perform moderately complex math problems
- Able to read, write and speak the English language and to interact and communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, physicians, health care professionals, residents, and their families
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently
- Able to obtain and maintain valid first aid certification
- Able to obtain and maintain valid Food Handler's certification, as needed
- Be mobile and able to perform the physical requirements of the job. Good physical health, verified by a health screening, including a chest x-ray or an intradermal test result not more than 6 months prior or seven (7) days after employment
