This job was posted by : For more information, please see: DESCRIPTIONValley Center USD 262Position Title: Bus DriverDepartment/Location: TransportationPosition Qualification: Classified 9 month (student contact days as determined by BOE)Reports To: Director of TransportationTerms of Employment: At-WillFLSA Status: Non-ExemptAnnual Evaluation By: Director of TransportationApproved By: BOERevised: February 2015GENERALTransports student(s) to and from school and school related programs and activities in a safe manner; prepares bus for transportingstudents; communicates with faculty, staff and parents.QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalent.Valid Kansas CDL license with required endorsements.Completed KDOT physical examination.Must pass and is subject to drug tests as required by federal and state law and the policies regarding drug testing.Minimum one year experience, driving in all weather conditions; minimum two hours driving bus on a school route.Meet all state requirements for bus drivers, including defensive driving, CPR, and first aid certification.Ability to effectively use district email.Ability to work well with children.Good interpersonal skills.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and proceduremanuals.Ability to respond to emergency situations.Must have reliable personal transportation.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentially at all times.Must support district mission, goals and objectives.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSTransport student(s) (and occasionally staff/faculty/parents) by established safety and district standards.Obeys all state/local traffic laws and regulations.Maintains student discipline on bus; follows district student discipline procedures.Load and unloads only at authorized stops; deviates from established procedures only if safety of student(s) appearsto be in jeopardy; places safety of student(s) in priority position.Exercises responsible leadership on school trips.Keeps to assigned schedule to provide minimal school disruptions.Files all reports required but not limited to trip incidents: vehicle related, student/parent related and road conditions.Performs pre-trip inspections; submits bus maintenance requests; fuels busses.Participates in regular driver personnel/in-service trainings.Responds to routine routes, field trips, athletic events and other school related activities.Maintain impeccable driving record.2Maintains district professional conduct, appearance and grooming standards; supports district safety requirements.Manages all job duties with mobility, agility and dexterity and focused observation to drive vehicles and to observebehaviors of students on the bus.Other duties as assigned.Regular attendance is required.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk and hear. Physical exertionto manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 lbs., stooping, bending and reaching may be required.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Some extended hours and multiple demandsfrom several people are frequently required by the employee.WORK ENVIRONMENTEmployee must work in and around dust, fumes and odors, noisy and crowded environments, and work indoors and outdoors year-round in a variety of temperatures.
