Director of Delivery Operations Overview
As the Director of Delivery Operations, you must provide operational oversight and act as your location’s subject matter expert. You are responsible for all aspects of delivery operations within your Ecosystem, including deliveries originating from back-of-store locations and centralized cross docks (XDTs). You will lead your delivery staff in their daily operations, ensuring you effectively coach and develop the delivery staff to drive company and client standards across the board. You are expected to meet or exceed the performance and financial goals set for your area of responsibility. In this role, you will develop and maintain professional relationships with the client’s operational management teams and drive superior service levels as expected by the company’s customers.
This individual will be an essential part of UST’s growth and success, built upon the expectation that EVERY team member will Execute Excellence Every time –known internally as E3.
Pay: $90,000 to $100,000 annual salary
Responsibilities
(include, but are not limited to)
- Oversee delivery operations with an emphasis on achieving service and financial objectives.
- Manage the delivery budget for your location.
- Monitor daily and weekly reports to ensure financial objectives are achieved and deficiencies are identified and addressed.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret data and metrics to ensure you have ample ICs to meet monthly forecasting.
- Ensure your location has adequate trained personnel to operate successfully and staff performance maintains UST’s E3 standards.
- Monitor contractor earnings and lead programs that limit the exposure of contractor debt.
- Drive for results that meet or exceed the UST & Client service and KPI standards.
- Grow and foster strong client relationships with internal and external partners.
- In coordination with the Regional Vice President of Delivery Operations, develop and lead innovative programs to train, evaluate, and coach staff in the successful operation of the location.
- Monitor and perform ride behinds and site audits to evaluate independent contractors and determine skill levels to identify and lead coaching opportunities.
- Oversee loadout, route completion, check-in, claims management, routing, DOT compliance, and invoices/settlements.
- Conducts business to enhance the reputation of UST, our contractors, and customers.
- Ensure all operations consistently comply with DOT, OSHA, and UST requirements.
Requirements
- Ability to work a schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays
- Bachelor’s degree and four or more years of relevant experience, or 6-10 years equivalent combination of education and experience
- Up to 20% travel and 24/7 availability depending on the performance of the location
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook
- Knowledge of DOT regulation
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Experience creating and analyzing statistical and financial reporting
- In-depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (ex. finance, customer service, and employee management)
- Ability to make independent judgments that have a considerable impact on the organization
- Proven ability to problem solve and create innovative solutions
- Balance customer satisfaction with cost-effectiveness
- Multi-task and provide thorough follow-up and detailed action plans
- Create and execute detailed plans alongside the RVP of Delivery Operations
- Valid Driver’s License
