SUMMARY - To providetransportation of residents and of laboratory work to hospitals, doctors'offices, mental healthcare centers and other medically-related institutions toassure continuity of medical and mental health services no availablein-house. Provide other transportationservices as residents' request.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES including the following:
*Note: Other duties may be assigned
• Complete safety checks prior to vehicle use,scan to Director of Risk Management and to Director of Maintenance if there isan issue.
• Transport ambulatory residents to facilitatethat residents may keep their hospital and medical appointments. Be willing to take the time and care withresidents to help them as needed at the doctor's office or hospital.
• Assist Social Service and Nursing personnel inmaking arrangements for the transportation of non-ambulatory residents tomedical and hospital appointments to maximize promptness of appointmentscheduling.
• Maintain calendar of appointments of scheduledtransportation to maintain organized work routine, facilitate efficientscheduling, and to prevent the missing/forgetting of taking residents to their appointments.
• Pick up medical supplies from Wayne Healthcareto be taken to the Nursing Department and collect the Brethren RetirementCommunity's med rooms and nurses' stations, lab work and medical paperwork tobe delivered to Wayne Healthcare.
• Take residents' dentures, eye glasses, hearingaids, and other appliances for repair.
• Attend Brethren Retirement Community in-servicesand community workshops to remain current and informed in issues relevant totransportation, long term care and gerontology.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Directorthat will enhance the function of the department and the quality of care givento residents, such as, assisting with the admission of residents to thehospital.
• Keep residents on time for their appointmentswith the Staff from neighborhoods are not able to get the residents at thedesignated pick-up area within sufficient time.
• Use patience and skills in dealing with theresidents who may be very frail, and who may be emotionally distraught andangry by their illnesses and disabilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Previous experience working with elderly inlong term care setting desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operatingand maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports andcorrespondence. Ability to speakeffectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply anddivide with 10's and 100's. ability toperform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements,volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed butuninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables instandardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS
Valid Ohio Driver's License and excellent driving record. Complete Defensive driving Course. STNA/First Aid/CPR is a must.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularlyexposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. There is the possibility of exposure toinfection if Universal Precaution Measures are not followed.
