**Job Title:** Registered Nurse
**Job Specialty:** Labor and Delivery (L&D)

**Experience:** Minimum of 1 year in the related nursing specialty preferred
**License:** RN License in state of employment or compact
**Certifications:**
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Current certification from NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or AWHONN courses within specified time frames
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days for experienced nurses; 90 days for new graduates
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification requirements based on experience level
**Must-Have:**
- Attendance at New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire
- Completion of competency validations and annual verification requirements
**Job Description:**
- Practice independently and demonstrate awareness of all relevant aspects of patient care
- Provide both routine and complex care, focusing on long-term goals or plans
- Manage clinical nursing contingencies and delegate tasks appropriately
- Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
- Administer medications and treatments using the appropriate protocol and monitor for side effects and effectiveness
- Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients and their families
**Core Competencies:**
- Use critical thinking to assess the needs of patients and families
- Develop and adapt a specific plan of care using evidence-based practice
- Implement patient care, monitor progress, and evaluate treatment outcomes
- Anticipate and plan for admission, discharge, and transfer needs to facilitate patient flow
- Direct and evaluate overall nursing care and functions of the unit during assigned shifts
- Incorporate patient safety practices and guidelines
- Provide evidence-based nursing care and ensure compliance with healthcare-related laws and regulations
- Maintain and document accurate health information
**Technical Competencies:**
- Follow specific standards and procedures for clinical policies
- Maintain paper and electronic documentation of patient records
- Educate patients about the use of medical equipment and ensure its proper functioning
- Process and verify medical orders accurately
- Read and interpret patient charts, identifying any mistakes or omissions
- Ensure patient safety by recognizing potential risks
**Additional Information:**
- Compliance with specified time frames for obtaining necessary certifications is essential
- Newly hired experienced RNs and new graduates must complete orientation and designated competency validations within specified time frames.
