Position Summary
The starting hourly rate for this position is $19.58, with an increase to $20.61 after successful completion of a six-month probationary period. This position is not eligible for remote work. Regular in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. This position will provide responsive customer service through the operation of vehicles and equipment to collect and deliver refuse and recyclable materials to appropriate destinations. This position will engage in high performing, leading edge practices, valuing people, partners and stewardship. Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
One year satisfactory experience in residential or commercial recycling or waste management operations.
Possession or attainment of an MSU forklift operator's permit prior to the completion of the applicable probation or trial period.
Possession of a valid Michigan Chauffeur Driver's License. Applicant must have a good driving record and submit their license number on their application form for a motor vehicle record check.
Must drive University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification.
May require frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.
Desired Qualifications
A demonstrated interest in recycling, landfill diversion, and sustainability.
A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.

Special Instructions

Work Hours
Monday through Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm, and may require after-hours, weekend and holiday work.

Summary of Physical Demands
Lifting material from floor and placing in carts. Lifting and dumping recycling containers. Up to 75lbs for up to 3 hours per day. Carrying surplus items and recyclables from rooms or outside to carts. Up to 50lbs up to 2 hours per day. Pushing carts of surplus, recycling, trash and food waste up to 300lbs using carts or dollies for up to 2 hours per day. Climbing stairs to get to and off trucks and up to the sort line carrying up to 25lbs for up to 1 hour per day
