PRN RN - Labor & Delivery Unit

The Labor and Delivery Unit at Cleveland Clinic Akron General delivers family-centered care for more than 3,000 births per year. A Level III Birthing Center, we hold the highest medical care rating possible. Our dedicated, talented nursing caregivers provide care for all types of pregnancies – from normal to complex. Our unit encompasses 10 private labor and delivery suites in a safe and secure environment. The suites feature private showers as well as other comfortable accommodations, including an in-room area for the baby.

PRN Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor & Delivery  


A caregiver in this position works varying shifts across evenings, nights, and weekends. 


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Deliver patient care utilizing the case management principles, the nursing process and knowledge from various healthcare disciplines.  

  • Manage assigned personnel and collaborate with members of other healthcare disciplines. 

  • Promote and demonstrate nursing caring standards and guest relations standards. 

  • Assessments: complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.  

  • Planning: develop and update goals, involve patients and families in developing plans of care, coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.  

  • Implementation: provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.  

  • Evaluation: participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process. 

  • Leadership/professional development: delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person/role model/mentor, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure, obtain any required certifications specific to the unit, be involved in professional development and review processes, adhere to values/guest service standards and guiding principles, complete mandatory education and training and maintain BLS and ACLS certifications.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.  

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 

  • One year of acute care nursing experience.  

  • If assigned to designated units where required, you must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
