The Data Center Infrastructure Construction team at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is a dynamic group of professionals dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art data center facilities at scale and at pace. This team comprises experienced project managers, commissioning experts, and construction specialists who work collaboratively to ensure the successful execution of complex data center construction projects. We are seeking an experienced Senior Director Colocation Infrastructure Construction Delivery to lead a team overseeing the construction of data centers performed by colocation providers. This role is critical in ensuring that projects are managed effectively to meet schedule, quality, and design requirements.

As the Senior Director of Colocation Infrastructure Construction Delivery, you will be at the forefront of shaping the future of our data infrastructure. Your leadership will be pivotal in driving the strategic vision for our data center projects, ensuring they align with our long-term organizational goals. You will lead a dynamic team of professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. Your role will involve not only overseeing the successful execution of complex construction projects but also inspiring your team to push the boundaries of what's possible in data center design and construction.

Strategically, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive plans that optimize efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and operational excellence in delivery. You will engage with key stakeholders, manage high-stakes vendor relationships, and navigate the complexities of regulatory compliance. Your ability to anticipate and mitigate risks will be crucial in maintaining project timelines and budgets. By staying ahead of industry trends and incorporating cutting-edge technologies, you will ensure our data centers are not only state-of-the-art but also future-proof.

Responsibilities

  1. Review and understand complex data center construction projects that are being constructed by colocation lease providers. Analyze the projects for risk profiles and work with colocation providers to mitigate.
  2. Develop and implement long-term standards and strategies for data center colocation construction projects delivery certainty to align with organizational goals.
  3. Coordinate with the DCIB teams executing tenant fit-out data hall white space projects.
  4. Lead and mentor a team of project managers, engineers, and construction professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  5. Lead and manage the construction oversight efforts of data centers by colocation providers, ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  6. Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, coordinating with colocation providers to ensure timely delivery of milestones.
  7. Analyze projects independently to evaluate risk profiles associated with timely delivery, address gaps in risk identification and mitigation, and inform the business of associated potential impacts.
  8. Work closely throughout design, construction, and commissioning to fully coordinate and integrate the separate scope of tenant fit-out projects with the DCIB teams leading these efforts.
  9. Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure all construction activities meet design specifications and industry standards.
  10. Collaborate with design teams to ensure that construction activities align with the approved design plans and specifications.
  11. Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and colocation providers, facilitating clear and effective communication.
  12. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
  13. Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
  14. Provide ongoing colocation provider evaluation input for continuous improvement.
  15. Conduct regular project visits to ensure schedule, coordination, and quality throughout the life of the project.
  16. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance data center performance and sustainability.
  17. Attend meetings held in various time zones to support live engagement and support of international projects.

Required Skills Include:

  1. Heavy knowledge of base building data center construction- civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing.
  2. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Strong skills in developing and implementing long-term strategies and establishing program level requirements.
  4. Deep understanding of data center design, construction, and operational requirements.
  5. Expertise in managing large-scale data center construction projects from inception to completion.
  6. Proven ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of professionals.
  7. Proficiency in creating and managing project budgets.
  8. Ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  9. Experience in selecting, negotiating, and managing contracts with vendors and contractors.
  10. Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards.
  11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum of 12 years of experience in construction project management, with a focus on data center or colocation infrastructure either for a general contractor, colocation provider, or hyperscaler.
  3. Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale construction projects.
  4. Strong understanding of construction processes, quality control, and design coordination.
  5. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
