STUDENT TRANSPORTATION DRIVER
Monday-Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm
40 Hours/Week
DESCRIPTION:
The Student Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting students Kindergarten through 12th grade to and from school following established routes. They may also transport students and faculty to field trips, sporting events, job shares or other special events. Drivers must comply with all bus operating laws and be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule. They must ensure that their vehicles are safely operating properly each day. Drivers are also responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transport students to and from school in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with established bus routes and all bus operating laws.
- Read and understand bus route sheet and follow instructions.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, parents and school officials.
- Use the two-way radio to communicate with the Transportation Office.
- Complete pre and post trip inspections, report any mechanical deficiencies and properly maintain the DVIR.
- Enforce bus safety rules and maintain control of the students in the vehicle. Any incident that is difficult to control must be reported to the Transportation Office.
- Ensure that all students are secure in seatbelts or car seats while they are in the vehicle whenever the vehicle is so equipped.
- Driver may have to assist students in and out of seatbelts, harnesses, car seats or any other child restraint device, if necessary.
- Assist physically challenged students/ wheel chair students, if necessary.
- Inspect vehicles after each route for "sleeping" students and items left by students.
- Substitute as a Transportation Aide for a student, if necessary.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager
QUALIFICATIONS: STV/Bus driver with CDL B with P and S endorsement or Class D with V endorsement. Candidate must pass background check and DOT physical and drug test. Must maintain a commercial driver's medical certificate and pass continuous random drug tests. There is a 120 working day probationary period. Experience transporting K-12 students preferred.
SALARY: Starting wage for STV/Bus Driver with CDL with P and S endorsement - $21.00/hour. Student Van Driver with Class D with V endorsement - $17.00/hour.
