Job Summary:
The Shipyard Crane Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating cranes within a shipyard environment to facilitate the movement of heavy materials, equipment, and components for ship construction, repair, and maintenance activities.
Job Description :
1. Operate electric, hydraulic and friction cranes in a safe and efficient manner.
2. Operate equipment to lift, move, position, and place materials, supplies, and equipment within designated areas of the shipyard.
3. Interpret and follow signal instructions from hook tender or other crane operators to ensure safe and accurate crane movements.
4. Operate crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, and signal instructions.
5. Inspect crane machinery and equipment before operation to ensure proper functioning and identify any defects or maintenance requirements.
6. Adhere to safety procedures and regulations at all times to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to property or equipment.
7. Maintain accurate records of crane operations, including the types and quantities of materials moved and hours worked.
8. The candidate must be able to read and understand the crane's load rating chart(s) and diagrams while applying all notes and warnings related to such charts to confirm the correct crane configuration to suit the load, site and lift conditions.
9.The candidate must be able to identify the site conditions that could adversely affect operation of the crane. Additionally, they must be capable of understanding and applying the information contained in the crane manufacturer's operating manual.
10. Collaborate with other shipyard personnel, such as welders, riggers, and supervisors, to coordinate crane activities and optimize workflow.
11. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to report any issues, concerns, or incidents related to crane operations.
12.Physical stamina and dexterity to perform repetitive tasks and work in various weather conditions.
13. Excellent hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
14. Will be asked to perform as a hook tender and operate heavy industrial vehicles as a secondary job as production demands dictate.
15. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment, hardhat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes, hearing protection, and personal floatation device when required.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High school graduate, GED or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in crane operation preferred.
Proven experience operating cranes in a shipyard or similar industrial setting.
Crane Operator: 2-5 years.
Minimum 3-5 years' experience rigging.
Knowledge of crane operation principles, techniques, and safety protocols.
Ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Must pass written exam after training.
Must comply with safety/OSHA rules and requirements.
Must comply with company instructions, and guidelines.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must be able to work with Project, rig, and crane teams effectively.
Must be able to understand the danger areas and control the movement of personnel and equipment, on the pier, during operations efficiently.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects for extended periods.
Manual dexterity and coordination to operate crane controls and manipulate materials.
Visual acuity and depth perception to assess distances and identify potential hazards.
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, as required by job duties.
Work Environment: The work environment for a Shipyard Crane Operator may include exposure to loud noises, vibrations, and potentially hazardous materials. The job may require working outdoors in various weather conditions and may involve climbing, stooping, kneeling, and working at heights. Strict adherence to safety procedures and the use of personal protective equipment are essential.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Must possess or be eligible to get a DBID (Defense Biometric Identification).
Have flexible schedule, be able to work any shift (1st, or 2nd) and do overtime if required.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $57720 - $88483
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
