General Purpose
Perform a variety of skilled tasks in the operation and service of trucks, transports and specialized wheeled equipment needed to construct, maintain or repair county roads and service systems.
Supervision Received
Work under the general supervision of an Operations Foreman or the Road Manager.
Supervision Exercised
None.
Essential Functions
Operate snow removal and sanding equipment to remove snow, ice, etc. from roadways to maintain safe travel conditions within an assigned area; apply ice control materials and chemicals on intersections, curves, hills and railroad crossings.
Operate gravel trucks, pup trailer, water truck, bobtail dump truck, flat bed and related transport equipment; transports gravel, asphalt, debris and related materials.
Perform daily preventive maintenance and routine repair procedures; assure proper fluid levels; perform various lubricating tasks as needed to assure proper operation; perform routine vehicle safety inspections.
Assist in seasonal operations such as patching, crack sealing, crushing, seal coating, tree trimming, etc.
May operate heavy equipment in a learning or training capacity or on a temporary basis as assigned.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures according to Bonneville County policies, and State and Federal regulations.
Ability to maintain regular, reliable patterns in work product and attendance according to Bonneville County's expectations.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Educations and Experience:
A. Graduation from high school;
AND
B. Two (2) years of experience performing the above or related duties;
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Some knowledge of the principles and techniques of heavy mechanized equipment operations; hazards and safety standards common in medium and heavy equipment operation and maintenance and repair.
Skill in operation of light to medium duty equipment.
Ability to operate various kinds of light to medium duty equipment; perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time under varying conditions; follow instructions; establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
3. Special Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho Class "A" Commercial Driver's License without restrictions, such as Automatic only or Pintle Hitch.
Must be able to be flagger certified.
Required to possess or obtain "Tanker" endorsement within six (6) months of starting this position.
4. Work Environment:
Work is typically performed outside with frequent exposure to temperature changes, dust, fumes, moving parts, and weather conditions. Tasks require variety of physical activities, involving muscular exertion, such as walking, climbing standing, stooping, sitting, heavy lifting and reaching. Communicating, hearing and seeing required for completion of essential functions. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity required. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and critical thinking. Constant travel in equipment required in job performance. Some daily aspects of the job pose threats or hazards capable of producing severe physical injury.
Work requires the ability to lift/carry objects weighting up to 100 pounds on a regular basis.
