Job Summary
Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers to and from Salvation Army activities and various locations; Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items as requested by management; assists in performing routine cleaning and repairs.
Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers to and from various locations; organizes transportation by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.
Provides transportation for employees and beneficiaries to and from the Center, Family Stores and other work-related locations
Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items from various work- related locations, as needed.
Delivers and picks-up mail from the post office.
Drives carefully and observes and complies with all traffic signs; observes road and weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.
Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.
Locks vehicle doors when vehicle is not in use.
Logs all mileage on standard forms; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.
Maintains control of passenger activities by prohibiting unsafe or non-Christian behavior.
Vehicle Maintenance Responsibilities
Ensures the vehicle meets the scheduled maintenance and ensures operator's maintenance is performed in accordance with established standards.
Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards; washes and cleans the vehicle regularly.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the assigned geographical area. Knowledge of acceptable driving techniques and practices. Knowledge of safety precautions associated with transporting passengers. Ability to drive a passenger vehicle ensuring the safety of passengers and protection of the vehicle. Ability to read and follow maps. Ability to gauge time needed to
arrive at destination. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to schedule route in a manner that saves time and gasoline consumption. Ability to learn by method and on-the-job training; including ability to follow instructions. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers. Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years' experience operating an automotive vehicle, or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver's License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to drive a vehicle in heavy traffic and extended trips. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.
Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (more than 25 lbs.) frequently.
Work involves driving a vehicle where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with long distance trips or heavy traffic.
Work requires driving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
