What you'll be doing...

Technology and Product Development is seeking to fulfill a position of an Associate Director in Product Engineering who will lead our existing dynamic team of Video Infrastructure Engineers.

This person will provide a vision to the team that delivers the quality of service Verizon customers have come to expect from their TV service. This person will also support Verizon in delivering new and improved services in an ever-changing world of home video entertainment. This role will lead the team to complete the transition from QAM to Video over IP for our Fios TV customers. This role requires excellent communication skills to manage the team and collaborate with other teams working on the transition project.

Knowledge of digital video technologies, digital ad insertion, and over-the-top IP video streaming technologies is essential. Understanding cable broadcast TV requirements, regulations, and compliances is preferred. Experience in designing scalable and resilient solutions is also preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Architect and manage Verizon's migration from QAM broadcast TV to Video over IP.
  • Provide designs that support 99.999% uptime of Fios TV live and video-on-demand offerings in a cost-effective manner.
  • Lead a team of video infrastructure and integration specialists responsible for live and on-demand video delivery, video quality, service uptime, alerting & monitoring, localized caching, compliance, dynamic ad-insertion, cost optimization, scalability & reliability.
  • Vendor management and budgeting.
  • Solutions integration and architecting state-of-the-art video delivery solutions.
  • Collaborate with Fios TV's Planning, Client Development, Server Support, Product, Networking, Security, and Compliance organizations.
  • Survey and recommend innovative solutions for personalized content delivery.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Over 5 years of experience in supporting digital video solutions.
  • Video signal standards and formats for broadcast television.
  • MPEG-2/MPEG-4/HEVC video compression and encoding standards, streaming video.
  • Stream processing & video applications.
  • Familiarity with OTT HLS and MPEG-DASH formats.
  • Ad Insertion technologies in a streaming environment.
  • The role of a home data router and basic IP networking.
  • Streaming Set Top Boxes and embedded streaming TV Apps used for video.
  • Digital video system architectures from acquisition to delivery for IPTV, Cable, and OTT.
  • Broad systems knowledge is required.
  • Cloud deployment, virtualization, networking, and servers & storage for IaaS and SaaS.
  • Tiered CDN Architectures and Video Caching.
  • Analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills in end-to-end video systems.
  • Proficient in building Splunk queries and dashboards.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership in system integration projects; strong autonomy, analysis capacity, and sense of synthesis.
  • Good personal relationship skills, organized, with team-building skills.
  • Experience in generating highly technical documents and reports, including best practices, guides, whitepapers, and system architecture specifications.
  • Understanding of regulatory broadcast requirements and franchise agreements.
  • The ability to keep track of complex tasks across team members.
  • The ability to keep track of other teams and coordinate activities.
  • The ability to lead the team through prioritization and time management.
  • Experience working with content providers and programmers for program and ad insertion rights.
  • Experience working with Security teams to ensure servers and data communications are secured.
  • Experience managing an AWS cloud server and storage environment.
  • Operating systems (Linux, Windows) knowledge a plus.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $152,000.00 and $282,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
