Who We Are :
Chester House provides day programming, employment services (Individual Placement and Supports model), and transportation services for persons they serve. We are currently looking for a Van Driver that will help people achieve what is thought to be impossible by providing transportation services to help individuals diagnosed with a mental illness. Minimum Education and Experience :
High school diploma or GED; one year of experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle preferred. Experience with individuals with developmental disability preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques; of basic vehicle maintenance. Ability to operate a multi-passenger vehicle; to operate a passenger-carrying van in a safe and efficient manner; to interact with passengers in a courteous and helpful manner; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Skills in using Microsoft Office; Excel, Internet Explorer, and Outlook preferred. Excellent customer service (internal and external), teamwork and adaptability are vital. Ability to complete daily transportation logs accurately and timely, ability to interact professionally with consumers at all times, ability to work a split shift and maintain flexibility for coverage and weather events.
Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required . Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Transport individuals with developmental disabilities to and from work sites, Chester House, clinical appointments and in crisis situations.
• Assists passengers, as needed, in getting on and off the van..
• Assists regularly assigned routes and schedules, immediately reporting delays to dispatch.
• Maintains supplies and cleanliness of vehicles.
• Performs pre-trip vehicle inspections (i.e. fluid levels, tire wear and pressure, lights)
• Inspects general vehicle maintenance, reports maintenance need.
• Follows emergency procedures in the event of accident or breakdown.
• Efficiently completes daily billing and log sheets.
• Support Transportation Coordinator in transferring vehicles to Fleet to maintain vehicles including monthly inspections, prevention maintenance, state inspections and other maintenance needs that arise.
• Performs other work as required.
Shift
28 hours/week. Availability 6:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. 4 days a week and 6:00 a.m. until noon one day a week; 2:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. 5 days a week.
