Position: Part-Time CDL Bus Driver

Job Description:
St Albans School is seeking a part-time bus driver to support the transportation needs of students and faculty during the school year. Reporting to the Manager of Campus Operations, the Bus Driver will operate the school bus in a safe and efficient way in compliance with the law and according to all relevant school policies and procedures. The work hours of this position vary based on the needs of the school and are not guaranteed.
Responsibilities:
- Driving and helping maintain the school’s bus fleet.
- Transporting students or faculty/staff to and from off-site school functions.
- Inspecting and reporting on the condition of the buses to the Manager of Campus Operations.
- Completing the school bus route as assigned ensuring that students safely enter and exit the school bus at their designated stops.
- Ensuring all bus passengers are safely seated before and while the school bus is in motion.
- Observing speed limits and obeying all road signs and traffic regulations.
- Maintaining order on the bus, explaining safety procedures to passengers as needed, enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies, including the safe evacuation of passengers through emergency exits.
- Ensuring vehicles are in good operating condition by performing required daily pre-trip safety inspections and maintenance checks. Reporting any adverse conditions immediately to the Transportation Manager.
- Ensuring that vehicles are in broom clean condition and free from garbage daily.
- Performing test runs of any regularly scheduled route, as needed, to be comfortable and confident in that route prior to transporting students.
- Reviewing directions for the am, pm, storm stop and late run routes regularly and confirming all changes with manager.
- Observing queuing protocols and traffic direction for school buses while on campus.
- Exercising good judgment in the performance of job responsibilities and working without direct supervision.
- Communicating effectively with students, parents, and faculty (as needed).
- Attending mandatory driver meetings and other meetings as scheduled and required.

Salary Range: $19.00-$27.50 per hour
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
Certifications: Passenger certified; airbrake certified.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference for CDL candidates who have driven students on a school bus.

Working Conditions:
Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule (approximately 10-25 hours of work each week) that is generally Monday through Friday with routine weekends depending upon sports and field trip events. The need for a bus driver may span occasional early mornings as early as 6:00 AM and may last into evening hours with occasional late evenings depending on sport and field trip events. The candidate will be sitting/driving for extended periods, requiring strong visual acuity, awareness, and compliance with all traffic laws, and the ability to walk for extended lengths of time over potentially rough terrain.
Work Environment: Generally, work is performed in a school bus which may or may not be climate controlled.
