School Bus Driver Trainee – $25/hour – Full Time - Immediate Hiring
Drivergent Transportation is a Metro Detroit school transportation company looking for motivated, customer-focused individuals who want to join our team transporting students.
As a School Bus Driver Trainee for Drivergent Transportation, you will be trained in-house to become a full-time member of our driving team, out on the educational front lines where it will be your job to safely transport students, exceed customer expectations, and ensure routes are operated on time. Successful drivers put safety first, are reliable, can succeed in a changing environment and are ready to work!
** This position will require a candidate to successfully obtain the following commercial driving license training permits from the Michigan Secretary of State BEFORE beginning training: CDL B, as well as P, S and air-brake endorsements
*** Training typically takes place over a 2-week period, with a combination of classroom, virtual and hands-on training. This training will end with the requirement to successfully pass a final State of Michigan road test, which will include a pre-trip inspection, driving skills test, and on-road driving evaluation.

Available Positions
Approx. 6-hour daily split shifts (3 hours AM and 3 hours PM)
Full-Time schedules – based on school transportation calendar
MUST be reliable, and capable of working a partially flexible schedule
General Responsibilities
Responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of students; including all duties connected to operating a school bus per all applicable client district policies & state/federal laws
Adhere to all school district rules, regulations and policies
Follow all directives from school district staff while on-duty
Ability to manage and maintain all students on the bus in a calm and safe manner
Conduct all pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required
Reports any maintenance problems to Maintenance in accordance with district procedure and does not operate an unsafe vehicle.
Reports to duty on time and maintains route on time but in a safe manner
Physically assists passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency
Immediately reports any accident or incident per Company/District policy
Exercises student and/or passenger management per Company/District policy
Informs all appropriate personnel of problems/procedures
Keeps the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable
Present a neat and professional personal appearance at all times
Ensures vehicle is properly fueled according to facility procedures
Completes all required paperwork (including route change sheets, time cards, vehicle repair requests) and submits to the appropriate authority in a timely manner
Maintains a cooperative attitude with parents, students, other staff members, fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers while always promoting company goodwill
Safely and efficiently utilizes vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios and emergency equipment
Always drive and operate delivery vehicle safely
Actively limit distracted driving habits
May assist in training other team members
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing per DOT regulations
Have and maintain eligible driving record per all applicable client district policies and state/federal laws
Must pass State and FBI Criminal Background Check per MDE regulations and Client District policies
Ability to pass DOT physical requirements and obtain valid DOT medical card
Must obtain and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License with valid P and S endorsements
Ability to take and pass Continuing Education Class (Advanced School Bus Driver Training) every 2 years
Ability to tolerate stressful situations
Able to understand and have empathy for children and persons with disability
Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate and navigate a full-size or special-need school bus
Ability to effectively operate a GPS
Basic knowledge of Metro Detroit area
Ability to work outside in various climates and weather conditions
Must practice defensive driving at all times and avoid vehicular and industrial accidents by practicing safe driving and work habits.
Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract specific Driver requirements.
Basic Qualifications
Eligible to work in the U.S
Minimum 21 years of age
Possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with active P & S endorsements
Consent to a drug test, motor vehicles and background check
Demonstrate strong communication skills
Proficient in English sufficient enough to read road signs and communicate with personnel
Preferred Qualifications
Holds high ethical standards at all times
Proven track record of reliability
Prior professional driving experience
Excellent attention to detail with skill set to problem solve independently
Self-motivated and able to work in a self-directed environment with an upbeat attitude
Ability to work with a team in a fast paced, ever changing environment
