The Town of Waterford is searching for a full time Driver for Senior Services. This position is 35 hours per week with excellent benefits.PURPOSE OF POSITION:Transports persons who are elderly and/or disabled to and from scheduled destinations in vehicles with wheelchair lifts/ramps.EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Operates mini-bus to transport elderly and/or disabled passengers to and from pre-scheduled medical appointments and various errands.Operates hydraulic lift and/or ramp both automatically and manually for passengers with disabilities entering and exiting van.Secures wheelchairs in vehicle according to procedure.Provides limited assistance to passengers entering and exiting the vehicle. Assists with small bags and parcels as requested.Conducts pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections. Reports vehicle maintenance and repair needs to supervisor.Plans and follows the daily route schedule based on transportation requests taken by Senior Services staff.Follows practices and procedures as outlined in the Van Operations Manual.Logs daily mileage, fares, and gas consumption on driver sheet.Assists in training new drivers.**The essential functions or duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Have or be eligible for and maintain a Connecticut Public Service Drivers License. Safe driving record. Be proficient in vehicle operation, and complete training and refresher courses as required. Be able to use discretion and independent judgment, and be able to deal effectively with people in a sensitive and confidential manner.EDUCATION and TRAINING:High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read, write, and complete daily paperwork.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form and the ability to deal with problems including several concrete variables in standardized situations. The employee must be able to work harmoniously, cooperatively, and courteously with others at all times. The employee must be able to respond to difficult situations, ease tensions and address disturbances.
