Bethlehem Central School District is continuoulsy seeking applicants for School Bus Driver vacancies. Candidates will be trained prior to an official School Bus Driver Position. Training applicants for School Bus Drivers will be compensated at the Board of Education approved rate on the District's regular biweekly payroll cycle with the understanding that they will remain on the District payroll for a minimum of 90 calendar days after the satisfactory completion of training. Compensation for training hours for bus driver applicants from the first day of class until the 1st CDL permit test date (not to exceed a week after the end of the training class) will be held until the bus driver applicant successfully passes the NYS CDL permit tests with all required endorsements
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is manual work of average difficulty requiring skill in the operation of a large automotive vehicle. The operator is responsible for the safety and conduct of the children who are passengers. The work is performed under general supervision with considerable leeway allowed the operator in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Operates a school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions;
- Checks the operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip;
- Reports any mechanical defect to immediate superior;
- Instructs or informs children about safety practices when entering and leaving bus;
- Maintains orderly conduct of children on bus;
- May be required to operate station wagon or other similar vehicle;
- May be required to perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle.
