**Job Title:** Registered Nurse (RN)
**Job Specialty:** Labor & Delivery
**Job Duration:** 13 Weeks
**Shift:** 7PM - 7AM
**Guaranteed Hours:** Full Time
**Experience:** Minimum of 1 year in the related nursing specialty preferred.
**License:** RN License in state of employment or compact
**Certifications:**
- BLS required
- Certification from NCC in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or equivalent from AWHONN (Intermediate FHM, Intermediate FHM Instructor, Advanced FHM Instructor, or Instructor Trainer) within 30 days of hire for experienced nurses; within 4 months for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty
- ACLS certification within 30 days of hire for experienced nurses; within 90 days for new graduates, maintained thereafter
- NRP certification at the time of hire for experienced nurses; within 60 days for new graduates and experienced nurses, maintained thereafter
**Must-Have:**
- Attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire
- Precepted by a designated trained staff member
- Successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and Perinatal Department-specific competency validation
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements
**Job Description:**
- Independently practice and demonstrate an awareness of all relevant aspects of nursing care in a labor and delivery unit
- Provide routine and complex care with a focus on long-range goals or plans
- Develop the ability to cope with and manage the contingencies of clinical nursing
- Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers
- Utilize the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and treatment effectiveness
- Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers
- Use evidence-based practice to develop and modify patient-specific care plans
- Monitor and document progression of treatment and teaching goals
- Facilitate patient flow through admission, discharge, and transfer processes
- Plan, direct, and evaluate nursing care and unit functions during assigned shifts
- Demonstrate accountability for nursing research and quality improvement
- Follow clinical policies and standards, ensuring compliance and enhancement
- Maintain patient safety, addressing inquiries and recognizing potential problems
- Educate on medical equipment use and ensure functionality prior to use
- Process medical orders accurately, differentiating between various types
- Interpret patient charts, identifying mistakes or omissions, and ensuring accuracy
- Engage in real-time investigation, analysis, and reporting of safety misses and near misses.
