- Maintain compliance with FMCSR hours of service (HOS) described in Part 395 of the FMCSR, using OmniTracs HOS Electronic Logging Device (ELD) module.
- As necessary, assist with loading and unloading various steel assemblies and structures on and off trailers via forklift or overhead crane without causing damage to equipment and material and no injury to personnel.
- As necessary, assist in identifying material that may pose a problem with the galvanizing process so as to expedite customer notification and production.
- Coordinates loading of company equipment at customer yard to allow for safe transportation to destination.
- Assists in yard upkeep area to be organized and debris free. Avoids waste of time and materials.
- Submits to required DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations as described in Part 40 and 382 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
- Performs daily vehicle inspections on tractor and trailer as required under Part 393 and 396 of the FMCSR.
- Preform daily and periodic inspection of forklift.
- Preform daily inspection of straps, chains and binders to ensure compliance with Part 393.102 of the FMCSR.
- Properly secure cargo utilizing compliant straps, chains and binders.
- Communicates effectively to personnel working under his direction, and to his Supervisor.
- Coordinates with customers, supervisors, yard personnel, lead personnel to ensure maximum production in all areas of operations.
- Maintain an excellent rapport with customers during visits.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicle, inside and out.
- Responsible for own supervision while on the road. Drive with integrity, safety and with the companys best interest in mind.
- Drive the safest and expeditious routes for all assigned runs.
- Assists in other duties as required.
Requirements
- Maintain compliance with Part 391 of the Federal Motor Maintain driving record in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and, Valmont liability insurance standards.
- Be familiar with and comply with all applicable federal, state, local and company rules and regulations in accordance with maintaining driver qualification and the principles of the safe operation of a tractor-trailer unit.
- Maintain a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) as per section 383 of the FMCSR.
- Be physically qualified to operate a commercial vehicle and obtain a Medical Examiners Certificate as per the requirements of Subpart E, Section 391 of the FMCSR.
- Be familiar with and comply with the proper methods of cargo securement of the various commodities hauled by Valmont Industries, Inc. as described in Section 393 of the FMCSR.
- Reads and understands Shipping and Receiving Documents. Identifies and locates material with these documents.
- Wear all forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) i.e. Hard Hat Safety Glasses, Uniform, Protective Gloves, Steel Toe Boots, Ear Plugs, Safety shield and cutting googles as required.
- Have the ability and expertise to operate Valmont machinery, tools and equipment. Additionally 2-way Radio, straps, chains, binders, Forklift Overhead Cranes, Omintracs system.
