Bus Driver JobID: 291Position Type:Student Support ServicesDate Posted:2/9/2024Location:Carlisle Community School DistrictJOB TITLE Bus Driver REPORTS TO Transportation Director QUALIFICATIONSHigh School diploma or equivalentValid Iowa driver’s licenseValid Class “B” commercial driver’s license with passenger bus endorsement “P” and school bus endorsement “S” and which does not have air brake restrictionsValid Department of Transportation physical examination certificationNo moving violations for reckless driving or operating a vehicle under the influenceAble to learn the operation of various busses and handicap equipmentMust clear state criminal record and child and dependent adult abuse checkAble to adapt to and work effectively in a fast paced environment with a variety of situations, individuals, and groupsMust be capable of maintaining discipline and control of students at stops, transfer stations, and while in operationAble to work with minimum supervision in accordance with district policies and proceduresAvailable to work in the summer preferredESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAM - PM Route DriverDrives and operates a bus, van, or passenger vehicle safely and in accordance with district policy and procedures, as well as local, state and federal laws and regulationsMemorizes bus routes, streets and roads, and school locationsDrives the routes as assigned without deviation unless authorized to do so or specific emergency and common sense dictateMaintains good driving habits, defensive driving practices, and exercises extra caution when driving around school buildings where students are presentProvides support and instruction to students in order for them to understand school bus rulesConducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of studentsReports inappropriate student conduct to the Transportation DirectorReports to the Transportation Director any and all mechanical problems immediatelyInsures that vehicle is clean; performs daily vehicle inspections and fuels vehicleMaintains time cards, seating charts and other records as necessaryCommunicates with families pick up and drop off time at the beginning of each yearMonitors two-way radio and provides radio communicationParticipates in all required training and drug and alcohol testingDevelops and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community membersExhibits a positive attitude toward students and coworkersPerforms other duties as assigned by the Transportation DirectorMeets with staff and parents as necessary to develop plans to meet students’ needs, as well as improve behavior on the busPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSPhysically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle as dictated by the Department of Education in accordance with regulationsMust have physical dexterity and be free of limitations in limbs and digits or other limitations likely to interfere with the ability to control vehicles used to transport studentsAble to assist in the emergency evacuation of students by extraction through emergency windows, doors, and roof exitsAble to sit for long periodsAble to operate handicap lift equipment and emergency window and door exitsAble to operate a manual door openerAble to use equipment such as vacuum, broom, rags, cleaners and power washerAble to stoop, bend, and climb stairsWORK ENVIRONMENTWork is independentSubstance free environmentWork environment may include exposure to extremes in temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditionsContact with bodily fluids is possibleEvaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policyEvaluation is the responsibility of the Transportation DirectorDisclaimer:The statements in this job description are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
