Opportunity at a GlanceThe Village of Orland Park's Vehicles and Equipment Division is currently seeking a reliable, responsible, customer service oriented individual(s) to join the Public Works Department as an PACE ADA Bus Driver.Key ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for the safe and timely operation of a PACE 7-passenger van within the boundaries set by the Village in accordance with the Illinois traffic code, PACE and department rules and regulations. Duties include inspection of the PACE vehicle prior to each shift in order to ensure a clean environment, safe operation and vehicle performance on a regular basis; reporting equipment malfunctions to the Vehicle and Equipment Operations Manager and dispatcher; maintaining a passenger schedule in accordance with traffic, weather and safety considerations; reporting observed accidents to the proper authorities and submitting a daily driver log to the dispatcher.This role is also responsible for assisting passengers on and off the van, collecting passenger fares and operating chair lift for passengers with disabilities. Refueling the van along with taking the vehicle to local service stations for routine or other maintenance needs is also performed.Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsA high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required. Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid, Class 'D' Driver's License for a minimum of three years, demonstrate physical fitness to operate the required vehicle by passing a medical exam, and have a clean driving record. Must also meet the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug & alcohol testing requirements. Must successfully complete the PACE training program within thirty (30) days of hire and demonstrate the ability to exercise reasonable care in the safe operation of the vehicle.Skill in the operation of a 7-passenger van in all weather conditions, development of timely and efficient driving routes, operation of electronic equipment including smart phones, tablets and handheld two-way radios, and the ability to make accurate monetary calculations is also required.Considerable knowledge of the location of Village streets, Illinois traffic laws relative to driving operations, departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures are needed for this position.The ability to communicate effectively, understand and follow verbal/written instruction is necessary.This position typically works 16 hours per week.
